abs acting up

hello, I am new to the site. great site. when I hit the breaks when I go over a speed bump or any kind of rough terrian, my abs kicks in??? Dont know why, and if I really need it like when I get on the breaks real hard, the abs doesnt kick in. I think just unplugging th
e abs would probably solve my problems, unless someone else knows of a cure for this? COuld you pease tell me where my abs sensor is located, and how to disconnect it properly. By the way, it is a 98 Z24 cavalier. Thanks

The ABS will do that under those conditions as one or more wheels is allowed to lock up when it momentarily comes off the ground from the bump. You actualy have 4 sensors, one at each wheel. Yo can just pull the fuse for it and deal with the light on the cluster.

the light is already on in the dash. And I dont know if it is a whole wiring problem all together, because my lights dim at times for no reason??? maybe i might have a fuse bad with it. I know how the abs works, but even one gravel on the road causes it and its pretty darn dangerous when trying to stop at a stop light or something! haha! But thanks for the help so far, I will try to check the fuses after work. Couls you give me a more detailed description of where the fuses are??

Should be in the Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC) by the battery. Could also just be a bad motor pack or EBCM.

if the abs light is on, check your fuses and have it scanned.

ABS with pulled fuse is not the same as non-abs, you have dynamic proportioning that goes on in there and if its not powered it won't work properly.

Where the @!#$ did all the miss info about the brakes not working correct come from?????????? The brakes will function exactly the same as a car that never had ABS. This is from personal experience and it comes directly from GM as well.

The big square one is a relay. Either way, you're still not doing the right thing.

I programed mine out so I couldnt tell you the fuse I pulled as I dont remember, but there should only be one fuse marked for the ABS. Has been a while so I may be mistaken. As long as you know how to drive your car getting rid of the ABS is just fine. No right or wrong about it. If you like it then keep it, and if you hate it then get rid of it. I hate ABS.
