We have 1985 buick skyhawk, 74k miles, 2.0 motor, throttle body injector, p code engine. first it sat most all winter, as it was running rough last fall, we replaced dist. module, ran a little better. tried getting it to run a week ago, ran, but when you touched the brake pedal, it stopped, very hard to get started again. un hooked wiring from brake switch, as we thought it was shorted, made no difference. went and replaced ecm unit., now won't start at all, put back in old ecm, no difference. poured fuel in throttle body, will start. checked fuel pump, working fine, checked fuel filter, it is okay, un pluged fuel pump in back, put 12 volts to pump, getting fuel to throttle bady, checked fuel pump relay, ok. it is getting fuel to throttle body, ok. checked out injector solinoid, seems to be working fine. the two wires to injector solinoid, one has 12 volts, when ignition is on, other wire must go to ecm. have checked all fuses, and connections on engine, and about every where else., have checked code on ecm, just get code 12. nothing else. does any body have any suggestions ??? thanks Bob
To get it to run you need 3 things - fuel, spark, and compression. Once you're SURE that one is working, then you can move on to the next.
Do you see fuel spray from the injector when you're cranking (should be very obvious with the TBI). If not, you need to figure out why. First you should verify that the injector is receiving pulses from the ECM (probably the ground signal since you have power there), and if it is, and fuel is there, then maybe the injector itself is stuck or plugged.
Are you getting spark? The fact that you HAVE had it running since installing the new distributor module is a good sign that everything was put back right. Make sure that the rotor and the contacts in the cap haven't rotted into nothing - if they're looking corroded try cleaning them with a sharp knife, and check for carbon tracking while you're in there. If the rotor is bad and the spark energy goes right through the middle to ground, then you won't be getting anywhere fast. I'm guessing from your statement above that it IS getting spark though, as pouring in the fuel seemed to work. Maybe worth a quick check anyway...
Although it isn't LIKELY your problem, you may want to check out the compression. As long as it sounds like it's cranking normally (not spinning faster than usual), then this probably isn't your problem.
If you find that you aren't getting any pulses sent to the injector, then I would get a proper schematic and buzz out a few wires. I would concentrate on the ones either going directly to the injector from the ECM, or any that provide the ECM with ignition pulses so that it knows when to supply the fuel. I've seen wires rot out right in the middle of the harness before, so just because all connections appear to be good don't assume that the wiring is!
Hopefully this will give you a couple of more ideas to try without throwing parts at it...
Good luck!

May I suggest this.Since I assume the injector is spraying fuel and the car is turning over but just not cranking and u repl the dist, and ignition module.I would suspect the most simple part to check the COIL.It is mounted under the tbi intake manifold.Seems if the car ran and the timing was on cue and then suddenly the car won't run it all points to this part alone based on my exper being a first gen owner. The 2.0 does not have a crank position sensor for 85 models to the best of my knowledge mine does not which would cause the no start (just turning over and no fire)So u do not have that to worry about.I would check to see if u have spark pull a plug wire and turn over the eng,if no fire it points to a bad coil.It will cost about 15.00 at auto zone I myself just bought a new one for my cav not that is bad but I pulld my intake to repl my gasket.Ok
