ok so I got pulled over for my license plate light not working. when I checked the bulb assembly it was coroded and oxidized (sp). went to junk yard and got two new assemblies. today I took the trunk bezel off and cut off about three inches of both old assemblies and spliced the new right assembly and covered the splice. then I spliced the left side but before I covered the splice I wanted to see if they worked so I turned the car on and they did. but something weird happened because when I touched the bulb, with the car still on, both license plate lights and my third brake light went off. I didn't think anything of it and covered the splice up. the side markers on the bumpers light up but still the third brake light and license plate won't. the third light does light up when I press the brake. my question is, does the third brake light and license plate light act as a master/slave combination? like if the third brake light bulb is bad will it make the license plate not work?
this has left me stupid...I have not tried changing all the bulbs yet (thrd brake and license plate bulb) but will buy them today. I als did this splicing in the daylight im I know for a fact that gm wouldn't included a light sensor on those assemblies hahahaha...

any help please...I don't wanna get stoped again. my next step is rewiring the cables that feed those assemblies because at least I know that will work but I really don't feel like doing all that work...

just some food for thought...wen I said that I touched the bulb and the light went off I meant that I moved the assemblie...now both splices were uncovered and I guess they could of touched and shorted something..I checked all mu fuses and I had two blown. hvac and cig and changed them both (i know they have nothing to do with the bulbs). wen I turn the car on and hit the headlights only the side markers light up when the third brake light and license plate should as well...

hmm, i have a similar issue. noticed both bulbs where blown/ not working for license plate. got two new ones, still wont work, wires and connectors for it still look like new. didnt check fuses yet, but if its not that im stumped
