Well i was on the highway, going like 70 when I started getting this mad loss of power, it was going for a mile or 2 like that, then all the sudden my engine wasnt going at all..
So its now in the breakdown lane..

Nothing too crazy when i popped the hood, just a burn-ish smell, no smoke. It almost wants to turn over, but it aint happenin, almost like somethings seized??
My oil is fine, so is coolant. Its a 2.2 BTW

Any help?? Im sure ill be greatly needing it, as this is my only car

Thanks

hmm, fuel pump

any way to check for sure other than putting another one in?

and would that be prone to go out just at random on the highway?

Turn the key on and you can usually hear it wine. Also put a guage on your fuel rail and have someone try to start the car and see if the pressure rises.

hmm, i might try that

ya, so wouldnt it have smoked on me or something worse if it was completely blown?

and would the fuel pump seize up? cause im almost positive one of my pulleys or something internal got seized, cause its having so much trouble trying to turn over
and it could be the fual pump that did it

Is it a stock engine? Does it turn over? but just not 'catch'??

The only time something like that happen to me was when my valve broke off in my cylinder...

But that was because I re-engineered the car so to speak, and the valve springs were too stiff, which caused a chain reaction...Here a pic for the curious.

ya its pretty much stock, its having a REAL hard time turning, and every once in a while acts like it wants to boot up, but its a no-go.
all the BS happened within a mile and 1/2 of driving, it ran real decent before this happened.... i recently replaced plugs/wires, water pump, serpentine belt, tensioner pulley.. and a few other things, if that helps

Take the belt off and try to start it. That will rule out a dead accessory.

IF your still puzzled, pull the oil pan off and see whats in the bottom. If its full of metal shreds then the engine is gone.

`Hmm, this is a bit in a different direction than the other suspicions, but could it be a bad catalytic converter? I had mine crumble on me and pieces shifted and clogged my exhaust causing me to bog down and choke out the car...it also made it hard to start back up. Just a thought but even when I did get mine started again it ran like crap on my 300 mile trip home. Anyway, good luck.

you could try rotating the crankshaft yourself to see how much resistance there really is. with the belt off of course. taking the oil pan off is a good idea to check the internals, like tinkles said. wish i would've done that when my timing went.

Anyone have a used up 96-97 2.2l engine near the UP? I need a crankshaft!

I remember a long long time ago I had an old Chrysler and the rocker came off because a lifter failed. It would act like it wanted to start, but didnt. I replaced it, no problem afterwards
