first off... cars a 97 sunfire 2.2L 5 spd...
now when the cars idling theres a ticking noise coming from what appears to be the drivers side of the engine... i have narrowed it down to the far drivers side fuel injector... its not that loud... but noticeable... it gets faster with rpm...
my question is... is this a huge problem?... like is the injector gunna fail soon?... or what does this mean?... i can live with the tick i just wanna make sure its not gunna cause any damage...
while im on this topic... how hard is it to change and injector on this car?... do i need special tools?.. and special steps/procedures i need to take?...
thanks...
unless you've got direct port injection. I'm gonna rule a lifter/valve tap. It may not be an issue, did the noise just start?

well its been doing it ever since i got the car... but im sure its the injector... i can feel it with my hand on it
It's a solenoid. It's going to tick to a certain extent. Is it louder than the other "injectors".
How fast is the ticking sound?
2 of mine tick louder than the other 2. This is on an '02. However I have lifter issues as well, so its hard to say just how loud it is.
Its been doing it for, about 4 months, 8k miles. Im really just waiting for it to stop working to replace it, I have spare injectors in my garage. Just lazy.
I would think that the absolute worst that could happen is if it failed while at WOT and it ran lean for a period of time. Hah, I guess I'm not that worried about it given that its a 10 minute job to swap them out. (on a 2200, IDK about the 2.2 OHV)
Cheers
ya the other injectors dont seem to be that loud... but it doesnt really worry me... other then that the car runs awesome
put a screw driver on the injector and put the handle part against your ear, really magnifies how loud they are.. also, the OHVs like to make a lot of noise, mine one day decided it wanted to be a little louder, worried me but after checking everything and having slow look at it, assured me its just the lil OHV being itself lol.
