hello all,
I have a problem with my 2004 cavalier 5speed with 50kmiles and wanted to know if anyone could help me. I was on a trip for about 140 miles and the last 10 miles of my trip i noticed that my rpms were spiking at the stop light around 1200 the first time i stopped at a light. Then after i put the car into gear and started to drive through the city it stopped when it was in gear. I stopped at another light and the rpms went to 2000rpms. I started to drive again and while i was driving i pressed the clutch in and the car went from 1200 in 3rd gear to 2300rpms. then right before i parked the car the problem was not present.
My thoughts are that it could be the ecu or a vacuum line on the brake booster. Any thoughts?
MIL/CEL at all?
your IAC (idle air control) valve could be starting to go...
I was looking for where I might have a problem on the car, and started looking at the wiring harness right before the ECU. I noticed that the person that I bought the car from must have been testing voltage or something on the wires because there were small razor looking cuts on about five of the wires next to each other right before the ECU. So I think this could be the problem and im going to try and fix the problem so hopefully this fixes it.
So I taped up the wires before the ECU and seemed to be no problems. But, as I was coming back from school tonight I noticed to have the opposite problem of rising RPMs. When ever I pushed the clutch in the RPMs dropped to 400/500 RPMs and seeing that normal for the 04 cavaliers is 900RPMs, im thinking that’s not good. It only drops for a moment and then restores back to the idle it should be at. Anyone else think it’s the IAC like speedline said? Thanks
