so here's the deal.... 99 2.4L w/ 165, xxx KMS on it. Never had a single problem... no weird noises or anything ever. It's had all regular maintenance done on it. There hasn't been a lack of power or weird running at all. Friday afternoon it just started making a ticking noise. It sounds like its coming from the top of the passenger side of the motor. Oil level and everything is fine. I have a sound click (right click save as).... i'm hoping it'll give you guys an idea of the sound anyways to kind of let me know what it could be .... i'm hoping it's nothing too major

could just be the injectors ticking or could be a lifter possibly
hmmm.... think i'd be better off taking it to the dealership? or a smaller shop??? i'm going to take it in in the morning i think to get it checked out
I think it is a rod bearing, but hard to say for sure.
FU Tuning
At first... I thought it sounded like a throw out bearing...... but after I played it a few times.... it does sound a bit like a rod bearing is going out....
it it is a rod bearing..... it doesn't sound very bad yet so if you get it fixed now.... you would prob be OK.
yeah... i took it in to the shop today... he used a stephoscope to try and narrow the sound down... he said the top of the motor sounds fine so he's assuming its the bottom end ... he's going to try and do an oil change with a slightly thicker oil and some Lucas treatment and do an engine flush to see what happens.... he said it could be a chunk of carbon came loose and is stuck somewhere.... which i hope is the case!
either way.... he said he can fix it either way... so thats good i guess.... lol
I hope the oil change takes care of it....
well.....i heard back.......
apparently he pulled the plugs and put them back in and the ticking was gone.... so he finished torqueing the IDI cover down and the knocking came right back......so he loosened it off again and it went away right away......so he thinks its a spark plug/IDI cover issue......but he said its definitely doesn't seem to be an internal problem......so hes replacing the plugs, boots, coilpacks and hes going to try a new idi cover

looks like i dodged the #3 bearing this time........lol
so.........i have the car back..........and no more tick!
new spark plugs, new boots, new idi cover and a new coil and its good as new....also had a fuel injector flush done and a carbon cleaning at the same time.
only cost $350 taxes in (only charged me an hour of labour for half a day of work!) so i think compared to how bad it could have been i got off pretty easy.
