I've had the same problem on and off for the entire winter. The Service light with the wrench symbol along with TARC OFF and the ABS light is on. Sometimes the ABS tells me car that I have low traction evne if I'm driving along on a smooth dry road, then the lights come off. You can also feel the ABS turn on/off while driving when this happens.
Yesterday I worked on a 2000 Z24 and it had the same exact thing going on with it. The owner told me he had a bad ABS sensor.
I was wondering if this is common? Do you think it is a actual sensor that is bad, or maybe a pinched wire or exposed wire somewhere along the control arm harness?
It is just now getting nice enough outside for me to get to looking into it. Just curious if this is a common thing and if there is something I should be looking for? If this is a common problem, shouldn't the fix be a recall?
I'm thinking that there is a pinched wire on the harness or exposed copper and no the sensor, the reason why is that when it is dry for a few days there is no lights on, but when it would snow this winter or rain this spring EVERYTIME the lights would come on as soon as I started the car. I'm guessing moisture is getting to the wires somewhere.
Anyway, let me know is anyone else has thee issues and what it took to fix it.
Thanks in advance.
The 2002 has this same issue.
Fun.
listening , same problem in my 05

Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
probably a bad WSS harness.
for the past week my 01 sunfire gt has been doing the same thing!
everytime i start my car the lights are off, but drive for a bit and the pedal vibrates a few seperate times about 10 seconds apart and those three indash lights come on, as soon as the lights come on the vibrating pedal stops, any info on this would be great.....
Harness is most probably cause, but it could also be multiple other things such as sensors, pass through connector, loose terminals, EBCM, or even the BPMV. The harness for the front WSS likes to develop an open at the points where the harness is forced to flex due to suspension movement. I used to do at least 3 a week while I worked in GM dealers.
Mine was doing the same thing, the ABS sensor and TRAC control sensor is a dual unit... mine was a bad MAP sensor. Replaced it and lights shut off, no problems since.
Finally got some time today.
Wire broke a 1/2" from the LF connector @ the sensor. Trip to the junkyard and 10mins later she's fixed.
Hope everyone else's is just as easy.
i got a ? my sunfire has the same problem except for m traction control button works fine. But the abs doesn't work and the red brake light is on. What is odd is if put my foot on the brake and start it no lights (auto by the way) put it in gear to move and go about 10 feet a boom there is the light along with some time of clunking, clicking noise somewhere under the dash. I gues the noise is the diagnostic system for the abs since my buddy's cav makes the same noise when you first start it up with no lights at all. any way if i don't put my foot on the pedals the lights pop right on when i start it. Here is the oddest thing if i go down the road about 15mph pop it in nuetral, shut it off while moving, start it back up and put it in gear. Well no lights at all and the abs works fine ( i've tested it a few times) until shut off agian. But like i said no check engine or trac off light. What does this sound like.

Thanks Joe, I need to get a look at mine and see what the hell is goin on.
When it happened to me, I put the scanner on the car and it came up with l/f wheel speed out of range. I pulled the rotor off the left side and the plug was loose. I just cleaned it up really well with some Brakleen and put a little di-electric grease on the connector and plugged it in tight. It's a good idea to check the harnesses whenever you have the wheels off to rotate tires or check the brakes. They're not in the best of places. Pretty much any debris under the wheel well could do some damage to the wiring. If the wheel speed sensor goes bad it usually just completely stops working. I've never seen one that works sometimes. It's either good or broken.
