96 2.2 vacuum tree broken....
Thursday, April 03, 2008 8:33 PM
I'm assuming that it is called a vacuum tree. Anyhow, it's the vacuum box that sits on top of the throttle body and has 3 plastic tubes coming out and going to the fuel pressure regulator, a white hose(pcv?) and then another hose routed to the back side.

I snapped the fuel pressure line clean flush at the tree and I'm kind of lost on what to do, anyone else done this and found a fix? Also, where does the line that routes to the back side of motor attach to? Mine has been unconnected for the longest time.

The stupid hard plastic lines for vacuum have to be the worst idea ever...they become so damn brittle after time.

the "tree" as I call it is more a box of hard plastic, so you can't easily do anything with it. I'm thinking I'll just plug up the hole at the tree and use a y-splitter to run the two lines.

As for the back side vacuum line, I still have no clue where that goes....

Chilton calls it a vacuum harness. tree works too, since i knew exactly what you meant.

1. biggest one, drops through the intake manifold, goes to the evap can purge solenoid, which is right above the ecu.
2. the one you broke, goes to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) valve as you know.
3. another tiny one like the one to the FPR, goes through the firewall and is bundled up in the wire harness, and is your accessory vacuum line.

so there you are, i hope you can figure it out...and just for reference, you can look at the VECI sticker right behind the coolant overflow on the strut tower.

as for the broken line, you can drill the right size hole (same size as the o.d. of the vacuum line) and slip it right back in. careful tho, you don't want to screw up your tree.
