So there has been this sound when the car is running, it doesnt sound horrible, or like anythings knocking or grinding. Its just like.. a click and its not extremely rapid either, or very slow, its just contsant, like 5 clicks a second. I was told by someone it might be a "bad valve" .. is that a possibility?
It sounds like its coming from the pulley side, close to the alternator maybe, but possibly inside.... even with a stethoscope i cant tell exactly where its coming from. any ideas?
you know what odd..
I've noticed my 2,2 doing that, along with quite a few other 2.2 J's around town...

and it pisses me off, its like.. all i want is for the thing to sound good when its parked and running, when im on the road i can just turn my stereo up, but it even seems to be getting slightly louder
its just like click click click click.......
i think this is worthy of a bunch
Mine does this too... it sounds like a bad lifter, but the 2.2L dohc doesn't have them. I'm not sure what it is.
bad lifters, valve lash or extra okay in your valve train. Best thing to do is to try to isolate the sound and then go from there, also another thing you could do is take off your valve cover and see if anything looks odd or out of place.
i mean, nothings gonna seize up i hope, and assume. it drives and runs good, but that friggin sound is always underlying. Sometimes it only starts after i go in drive for the first time of the day, but the idle before that doesnt have the sound
Mine ticks but its a combinanation of the rockers and noisy fuel injectors

x2, and probably x1000 for every 2.2ohv/2200 I've ever stood next to while it was running.
would seafoam even put a dent in this.. if it is the injectors?
i was hoping i could replace valve springs or somethin and be done with the nonsense, but i dont wanna @!#$ with lifters or anything like that, ill just keep the radio loud ftw
mine sounds like really pissed off injectors with a vacuum and an ass to fart with...but if your problem is like 5 clicks a sec, maybe it's a belt or pulley issue. just an idea.
i don't think the seafoam will quiet the injectors, just clean them.

i was checking out my belts/ pulleys, and like i said, i used a stethoscope and couldnt figure it out, .. \
that would be crazy if it were my alternator, it needs replaced pretty soon, or my ac pump, which is useless cause the ac lines are no good, i plan on takin it out and just using a bracket for that pulley.. would be awesome if problem was fixed after that
Take the belt off and start the car, that will tell you if the noise is anything belt driven.

you can just get a shorter belt to bypass the a/c compressor, then you might as well take all that stuff out!
thats what i was thinkin, id need to measure around the belts to make sure i get the right length, bypassing the AC of course, then I would gleefully rip all the AC $hit out..
i was listening further today and i really dont think its inside, like a lifter, or injector or anything, it could be the crank, alternator, or ac pump...
