My friends cavy has this bad ting noise like a chain knocking it is a 96 or 97 2.2 we put shorter belt on to bypass a/c compressor but still does it I was thinking timing chain if has one he said he thought those years were timing belts any ideas.

well i kinda when oldschool after we pulled the vavle cover all seem tight under there but we a dowel along side the engine to listen on the belt side sound like it was coming from timing cover.

sorry really tried we put a dowel down along the engine to use as a earing aid it was really loud by the timing chain area
