Transmission problem please help :(
Wednesday, February 27, 2008 11:58 AM
Alright so driving around everything is fine. Suddenly i am noticeing a issue. When i hit the gas the car doesnt go faster.. only revs higher untill eventually some power is trasnffered to the wheels. Also when i come to a complete stop the car speedmeter doesnt go below 1000rpm. So any kind fo tiny gas increase causes car to rev to much and to little power. Also when i hit the gas same problem and once it actaully shifted hard into the next gear. Any ideas would be nice

1st get your gauges right. Sounds almost like what my moms old ford windstar was doing. Her tranny was shot.

Just got back from the shop, the gagues are right btw. The gear slips thoughout the entire RPM,power isnt being transferd to the wheels. Bascilly he thinks that the Clutch needs to be replaced, and he will replace the clutch and seals for a ridculues price of 1100, for that price he better put in a whole new transmission whats that bull@!#$?

anyway i either will buy the clutch and seals have a shop do it, or change the whole transmission? what you guys think?

1st your speedometer doesnt measure RPMs your tach does, get the gauges right.

2nd i hope that your clutch isnt the problem, cuz automatics dont have clutches. Bottom line if the "mechanic" told you that your clutch is bad in your automatic, run away from that shop as quick as you can.

3rd for the problem it could be a number of things torque converter, valves, fluid, etc... Get your fluid checked, it might be the problem.

ran away from shop.... and well i checked the transmission oil, by using the check bolt it is OVER FILLED, so i didnt let it drain like i should since i got the car like that from factory, i just put it right back in so... @!#$

Lets say i pick up a 4 speed isuzu trans for 250$ used in good condition or so on? is this a good idea? have a shop replace it? I need some direction here its the transmission here that is going. What am i to do !

The autotrans interceptor rises the pressure of your tranny oil so it may unstuck valves or who knows. I had issues with my auto tranny till I found out how to prperly check fluid level btw it was missing some 3 quarts, and added the interceptor at 100%, this was about a year ago, no more trans issues...

an automatic does have "clutches" inside of it. called clutch-packs, they are basically a stack of friction plates with a fibrous material on either side. 1100 is whopping for that work, yeah for that price a new trans should definitely get installed. congrats on a problem solved without getting so costly.

Yes i know all about that, but the OP stated "clutch" as in non-plural a.k.a one. Im sorry that i didnt read his mind with my super JBO powers.

UPDATE: So kept the ATI inside the car after everytihng cause it helped. Well took it out now and the car went crapper as fare as shift. Then i put it back in and changed the pressure from 40% to 100% and NO DIFFERENCE the car does not shift hardeer at all in fact its shifting like stock with gear overload but its slipping all over the place badly

are you the original owner? how many miles on it? has the tranny fluid ever been changed?
when you checked the fluid, was the car running? if it wasnt then its not OVER filled.

before you dump a tone of money into the car try this first http://www.seafoamsales.com/transTune.htm
and drop the pan change the fluid and filter with quality dex III. I work for gm building transmissions at the toledo powertrain in ohio. #1yes some automatics have clutches/ clutch-packs 2 transmission fluid has friction modifiers that get worn out and clutch material wares and is carried by the trans fluid that needs to be cleaned out. it you want a gm trans to live for a long time add a big cooler and change the fluid and filter every 3years. that doesn't apply to boosted/no2 applications!

see ya!
