common issues with 2.4l twin cam

Hey guys, specifically in regards to the 2.4l twin cam from 2000 n around so years. what is the common issues with our engines. I've heard that one issue is the oil pumps are the weakest link. also the other day when i changed my oil i had noticed that there was a suficciant amount of oil spray off the back side of the block. i know this is new (with in last 3k) cause last oil change i cleaned the whole engine down. its hard to see where the leak is coming from cause it appears every where on the back side of the block from the valve cover (lightly) down to the pan gets thicker. also ive seen it on the front of the block. it obviously seems like a seal but i have a gasket kit i got a while ago from gm it has over 15 gaskets and before i have to get to ripping apart the engine replacing gasket has anyone gone threw this if so what gasket was replaced. like i said it every where and has a heavy consintacion just under the header. any info would be great help.

If there is no oil above your headder.... it's probably your head gasket leaking..... if there is oil above the headder I would check the exaust cam housing seals. (including the block off plate that holds your fuel lines that is bolted to the exaust cam housing)

do yourself a favor check the oil pressure sensor its by the powersteering resevoir, kind of right under the cover that says 2.4 Twin Cam. Disconnect the wire and check for fresh oil. I had a leak from there it didnt look like it was coming from there at all and there was alot leaking, its a common problem on GMs. cheap and easy to replace!!!!

Also check the dipstick tube as well. It has a small o-ring. If messed up, or not there it will spray oil out on the back side of the motor.

This is a known problem on all GMs. The back of the senor leaks where the wiring harness plugs in basicly (anywhere on the senor it can leak) The back of the sensor is plastic and over the years with all those heat cycles the plastic will become brittle and can crack, and leak. The water outlet for the coolant system (fallow your heater core hose or upper rad hose) also likes to become brittle and leak coolant.

The Sunfire is 15km away from 200K and the senor went this morning lol. Came out from my buddies house to find a litter of oil on he’s drive way. I just did the oil change last week . There goes 10 bucks of wasted oil. Also the oil will only leak when there’s pressure in the oil system ei when the engine is running.

Its basically a 10 min fix

This is what it looks like its on the side of your head.

Dont worry its not your head gasket lol............morons.

This is not a common issue on 2.4's. Not saying it does not happen, but for sure not common.

Yep, check that sensor and I bet it will prove to be the culprit. I've been too lazy to swap mine out but I suppose I really should by now.
