spark plug broke in half and melted, changed plugs, now car wont run. HELP!

Here it goes....
I noticed I wasn't getting the best mileage over the past week so I wanted to look at the spark plugs. I pull them and the #1 plug is broken in half in the middle of the white plastic part on them. The top half was basically melted and the bottom was pretty much intact really. The terminal ( the part on the housing that touches the spring going to the top of the spark plug) was covered in white from the melted plug(mostly a dust.) I cleaned it off using alcohol but it is still not BRIGHT shiney like the other three tips, It is a bit of a gray color now(Kinda like the plastic burnt itself onto it.). I was using champion plugs but I went out and bought oem autolites double plat.. I put these in and the car now misses so bad it stalls once the rpms settle. I burnt two plugs right away (# 2 n 3). Remember that #1 terminal is still that gray color unlike the shiney metal color of the others while I did all this.

Car is much worse than before. I'm thinking that when I cleaned the terminal it may have just died right there. I put the Champions back in using one of the autolites and tried all different combos in arrangment but with no luck.

1. can someone tell me a real easy way to check for spark coming from the ignition coil housing assembly. I want to visably be able to see and confirm the spark is there if thats possible-----be easy if we had plug wires.....
Or just give an idea for what may be happening.... Please help

What do you mean you burnt 2 plugs? Are you sure the spark plug boots are on correctly and making contact to the plug and the coil housing?

Fixed it,
I took the coil packs out and to autozone where they checked them out. The primary res. was at about .7 when it should have been around .2-.3, this was on both of them. Secondary was good and in range though, funny enough. The packs had arced off of one another and apparently made the one plug melt, don't know why it waited for me to mess with it before it finally blew all the way out, but thats just the way it happened I guess. 80$ worth of coil packs later and the car runs fine. Better actually,

Luckily this was resolved quickly. Higgens, those plugs had went completely black, guess I should have been more clear. And though it was the plug boot, I do need to replace those as well since they are getting pretty old and brittle.

Thanks. Lesson learned: if you car runs like a lawn mower, it's probably the coil packs. guess we should all learn how to use an ohm meter
