the situation is like this, i'll run on first gear for a bit and then i release the gas, i shift to second and accelerate...then i hear two click noises. ABS light will come on then i turn off the car. I start it up again and same deal. It'll go away for a bit sometimes, but return about a day after. PLEASE HELP ME!
Without knowing what code is being thrown for the ABS it's too hard to guess, but if I had to, I would think one of the wheel sensors or related wiring. Once you know the code, it will give you a proper starting place for diagnostics. Hopefully it's one that stays stored, or it may be tricky to figure out.
hey thanks a lot. ill see what i can do for now. hopefully it's nothing to serious.
Take it to autozone and ask to scan it because your getting an ABS light. Better yet go out and get yourself a basic OBDII scanner that will show codes and give you a description (so you dont have to go looking it up)
I'm with John S on this so far But I would be willing to bet that its more like a CV might be slopping around or the reluctor ring broke in which case a new CV axle is in order anyway.
Otherwise the wheel sensors are generally the first place I would check.

I've borrowed two "basic" OBDII scanners, and neither would show ABS codes. Maybe some of the newer ones have more features now. If you DO decide to get one, make sure it does what you want it to, or it's wasted money for this venture. A free scan always sounds good to me!
A agree that a broken reluctor ring or sloppy CV joint COULD cause the problem, but I would expect some nasty noises or vibrations to coincide. Since no other symptoms were listed, I guessed at it being more electrical in nature, especially since it's intermittent.

i have this problem too, but i hear noises from front left wheel.. im thinking its part of the upper strut assembly since i messed up the 2 bolts from the engine bay and still havent fixed it...
do you think if i fix my strut that my ABS will stop coming on and going off?
No it wont. The ABS sensor is mounted on the steering knuckle so it moves wherever the axle does.

so what your saying its a joint or maybe a boot?
loose or bad connection on abs wheel speed sensor. get tested with oscilliscope to check signal coming from sensor
hmm, well since i dont have an oscilliscope and those are pretty expensive, autozone can help me out right?
well ill get my cav looked at asap. thanks a lot guys. hopefully its nothing serious.

an obd II scanner will not read abs codes. abs tools are ridiculously expensive. actron just came out with one they call affordable, its $400.

wow all this talk of your ABS disappearing and making weird noises sounds like you got GHOST!!!!!!! have you recently had any deaths in your car? maybe someone is responsible for this disappearing and re appearing act, maybe......its someone with a GOST GUN!
there are basically only two things that will set off an ABS light - wheel sensors or the actual computer/pump assembly crapping out. since the light is flashing on and off, I'd probably rule out the computer being bad (it would stay on constantly), so focus on the wheel sensors. go out and get a $15 multimeter with an Ohm and AC voltage setting.
Step 1 - First, unplug the sensor, hook the leads up to the two prongs in the connector, and test resistance. If you get a reading, move on to step 2. If you get no reading, get a new sensor
Step 2 - Set multimeter to AC volts. Put the car in neutral and spin the axle. The voltage should jump up and down while the wheel is spinning - not a lot, but some. If it's not, get a new sensor.
Step 3 - Repeat for all other sensors. If they are all OK, bend over and take it like a man, because a new ABS computer is a lot of money
And, just to further clarify, and OBDII code scanner at Autozone does not read ABS lights, and you cannot reset the "Change oil" or "Maintenance" light with them. You can check P0 or P1 codes, and have them cleared out, but that's it.
mine makes that noise too, mine does it just as i move the car, and have had it all checked over, turns out it is the pump thingy mounted on the master cylender, i am just waiting to fix it, i do know it can affect resale value if not fixed, so i will do it soon. The units show up on ebay alot for around 50 bucks, but who knows if they will hold up very long
wheel bearing loose?

i have the same problem with my 05 auto except it turns of my traction control also when it happens
hop on in i've got a J
