**I also posted this in the transmission forum, but just wasn't sure if it would be more maintenance related so posted here as well**
Ok, so here's the story. About 1-2 months ago my clutch started getting spongy and loosing a reservoir full of fluid every 3 weeks or so. Well, this past Sunday when it was in the single digits the clutch pedal finally went completely limp. I filled it back up, bleed it and it was fine for about 3 hours, then the fluid was completely gone again. I figured it was the clutch master cylinder so I replaced that on Monday and bleed it, etc.. and everything was great....until the next morning, no clutch pedal again and no fluid..grrrr. Well, I filled it back up yesterday morning, bleed it again and went to work. On my lunch I came out to my car get in, get home everything was fine and normal, then when I leave back to work the clutch pedal was completely gone..but this time there was fluid in it still......wtf?!!! I bleed it again and it helped a little but not much as I had the same issues today.
I know I needed to replace things when the problem first started but between xmas, going on vacation and a doctor's visit, I had no money at all. So here's my problems summarized:
1) Clutch pedal will be normal after bleeding
2) Sometimes in the matter a few hours the reservoir will be empty of fluid
3) Sometimes I'll have fluid in the reservoir but still no clutch pressure
4) Replaced master cylinder
5) Cannot see any obvious puddles of fluid under trans
6) Some fluid around bottom tube of Master cylinder(clutch) and the bottom of the clutch reservoir
The car has 135,xxx miles on it and the stock clutch. I am purchasing the Exedy clutch kit on ebay this Friday which includes a new slave cylinder, but wanted to get some opinions. This is the only car between my Fiancee and I for now and it has to be used everyday, 50 miles roundtrip for her and about 25 roundtrip for me. I just don't want it to leave her stranded. Any ideas? Bad *NEW* clutch master? Slave cyinder? Pressure plate?
Thanks for any help!
Jason
Trace the leak. Actually physically look for it.
Yeah, have your beau vigoriously pump the clutch pedal while you look under the car for where it is leaking. You will find it soon enough if it is a hydraulic line.
