ok something i have never sene happen before occured last night on my brothers 50k miles 87 celebrity
the pass side TRE pulled off the end of the rack and pinion steering rod
the threaded end
crazy
didnt hurt the threads though,
bought a new TRE and put it on real quick on the side of the street where it came off at, well around the corner from where it happened at
how in the heck can such a thing happen ?
now i am going to be too paranoid to ever drive a FWD car again
already sene lower balljoints separate on such cars and had ot repair them,
and now this
the old TRE doesnt appear to be cracked or spread out or anything
no reason why this happened, at all
this car is low mileage and is spotless rust free well taken care of and everything
real nice example of a first gen FWD GM car
it almost got smacked up/smashed in the middle of the road when this happened and swerved into the oncoming traffic lane
just when you thought youve seen it all, something else crazy happens

X2
your exactly right, RWD is alot better of a design, they don't have steering racks or tie rods
