does it come on only when the car is in motion? or can you be parked, put it in gear and it comes on?

only when in motion and only in 4th gear, not sure what the problem is, when i have it checked its not showing any codes but the light comes on in 4th gear mainly under slight pull.

check the codes. just because the light goes out doesnt mean there isnt a problem. thats why they make scan tools.......so you dont have to guess

Any scan tool can read codes while your drving, but a good scan tool will let you look at a whole mess of differnt systems while they are operating. So find good scan tool and scan the car when your drving it and see whats happening. Dont go to autozone they wouldnt know what they were looking at. If even if their cheapy scan tool can monitor the different systems. Personally i have had enough of autozone and will never go back there. Your best bet would be the dealer, they should definatly have the proper scan tool.

no its not a very steep at all most of the time I can come up it in 4th or 5th depending on speed, the limit up the hill is 55 so that normally what I'm at, but the light will come on about half way up the hill, then go off about 2 minutes after i'm off the hill. Nothing shows up in the codes because the light goes off. but if there's a problem i want to get it fixed.

anything that throws a check engine light will store a code in the memory......if no one can get codes from it then you have some kind of electrical problem. good luck with that

they should be able to pull the code on a test drive. if they can make the light come on while driving it they can pull the code (or, more safely, have someone else pull the code) while the light is still on. if it's only an issue when it's raining then it's probably electrical. do you notice anything other than the light going on? loss of power? any noises or shimmies or anything at all? the dealer should be able to figure it out but i would think an independent shop could do it too. i know my scan tool (mac mentor) as well as the one we have at work (snap-on modis) would both be able to pull the code while the car is in motion, or at least look at the pids to see what kind of an issue it might be.

tinkles-some of the cheapo autozone scan tools can read pids but only in global obd2 which is incredibly slow making it almost worthless. and i agree that the people working there would probably have absolutely no idea what they were looking at.
