Weird Noise

So this noise only appeared after I got my new axle put in by my mechanic. When I go to take off while keeping my rpms at about 800-1000, I hear this strange noise. I think I can best describe it as "metal shavings" or two pieces of metal rubbing together. It either does not continue while I drive, or engine and wind noise overtakes it. I'm going to get my stock suspension put back in on Thursday, and I think I'll have him look at it then, but any ideas as to what it could be in the mean time?

Also, when I turn sharply and slowly (at around 5-10 miles an hour) I hear this noise like a wobbling sound. I figure it's just my alignment seeing as how my suspension/axle are completely screwed right now, but I'm unsure about that too. I notice it a little bit when I'm taking turns at a faster speed, but mostly when I'm traveling slowly.

Thanks for any and all help guys, I really appreciate it, thanks.

After more intense listening today, I'd say the first noise isn't so much "metal shavings" but rather something like coins in a coffee can being shaken around.

Tough to say for sure. wheel bearings are hard to diagnose over the internet, and they are only easy to diagnose if you know what to look and listen for.

To me, (I've replaced several CV axles and wheel bearing assm. at the shop) It sounds like he @!#$ up your wheel bearings when he did the axle OR pulled the plunge joint (the inner CV joint next to the trans) out too far and all the needle bearings are conveniently screwing with everything they can get ahold of inside that CV boot.

Either way I smell fishy mecahnics work.

CV axles are easy BTW. Something you can rank after being able to do trans fluid and filter and a coolant flush on your "Diffuculty to do" scale.

I would take it back and have him listen to the noise. Tell him another Technician said to check the plunge joints and front wheel bearings and ask him to show you the proper procedure to replace the axles. If he does'nt know what a plunge joint is, cut your losses and go find a real mechanic.

I was thinking that it could be the wheel bearings today, but then again what do I know. I trust the guy decently, and he hasn't screwed me over yet (so far as I know), so if somethings up I don't think he intentionally just let it be unless he missed something. You're right though, I'm going on Thursday and I'll ask him about it. Thanks.

Okay, so I talked to my mechanic today, and he's telling me that the clicking noise I'm hearing is the other axle that we didn't replace. I don't know if I want to spend another $200 getting this one replaced, but I don't want it snapping on me either. I've already put far too much money for my liking into just fixing this car. What do you guys think?

Axles Are easy dude.

Go pick up a Haynes manual. Buy a refurb from your local auto parts store and do it. Its not that hard you just have to pay attention to certain things. It is a safety issue on our cars if you dont do it right however.

Good luck. PM me if you want to know how to do it the right way (usually the easier way too)
