major power loss at 2800 rpm

hey guys. long time since i been on here. so my jeep decided to eat a belt and a radiator hose adn some other crap so i started driving the fire again. all was going well for a while. one night i turned it off went inside ate and came back out and it was idling a little rough. started driving and noticed up to about 2800 rpm it seems to run fine, but then after that it has no power. it will creep up to 5 if i push it but i only have done that a few times. head gasket seems fine, checked the valves and whatnot that all seems fine. im thinking maybe fuel filter? any ideas on wht the problem might be? thanks. 97 2.2l

Explain what you mean by "no power"

i mean good acceleration and normal sounding up to 2800 rpm, then it drastically changes to very slow acceleration and sounding very different.

i dont' know about sinfires exactly but I had similar problem on a 99 z24 cavy, I have a platinum cover instead of wires, for some weard reason the 4 bolts that hold it in place came loose and one or more of the cylinders would start misfiring and i would loose most of my power ,but only in the range of 2700rpm and up.
