Car trouble
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 3:13 AM
ok so my Z is having issues! It seems to happen when the motor is cold, When I give it about 1/4 throttle is sputters and cuts out so i give it about half throttle sputters a little more then takes off like it should. I was playing with it tonight and I held it at 1/4 throttle and it slows the car down and it wants to die. I replaced the fuel filter saturday but it did not help!? pleas help with ideas

well... i dont know much about fuel cleaning stuff, but if you just did that. maybe thats what the issue is.

My car does that too... I don't care if it's a 90 degree day... it still does it.

I just have to let the car run for a few seconds (sometimes a minute) before I drive it...

It's because of the exaust I have on my car.... from my understanding... the O2 sensor isn't heating up fast enough because of the exaust on the car and causes the problem... after I installed a resonator it got better but still does it.

If the fuel cleaner doesn't help just try letting the car idle for a little bit before you try driving it and see if that helps any..... if it's doing it for the same reason's my car is... you pretty much either have to get a heated O2 sensor or learn to live with it / adapt to it.

My car sputters if you blip the throttle when it is cold. Goes away when it is warmer.

I just replaced my pre cat o2 saturday and I got a universal one. It had two wires for the heat that I just cut because I had no where to connect them. Why would It start doing this all of the sudden? because I have had my header and exhaust for quite some time!?

Well I just took it on a 50 mile drive and it was doing fine till i was going down a long hill and was running lean do to down hill/ no throttle so i gave it gas and it sputtered and did not want to go then i floored it and it was fine!?

What will it do if i unplug it? wont it throw a code?

Re: Car trouble

i doubt it...but by having the 02 unplugged it will keep the car from reading the o2 when it goes into closed loop..there fore making the pcm rely on "pre determined" settings to run off of....if it runs fine with it unplugged then the 02 is your problem and needs replaced with an AC DELCO ONLY!!! note* this method will not work on other engine sensors...only o2

So my o2 could be the problem? Like I said I replaced my pre o2 last saturday with a universal one from autozone.

i had a problem w. mine a while back where it would sputter sometimes and if i floored it, it was fine.. it started to do it only once in a while then got worse to where i would be sitting at an intersection and it would sputter and quite once in a while if not watched... i replaced o2's, fuel filter, ran additive in fuel and what it ended up being was that a 4" vacuum hose had a crack in it... idk if this is your problem or if these guys are right and it is an O2 i just thought i'd throw that out there! good luck!

you sealed your fate haha ... thats definetly the problem...you need an AC DELCO 02 sensor..i know you dont like the answer, and you dont understand it.. but you can take the auto zone bosch sensor back and warranty it if you like to test what im telling you but the result will be the same...even if its brand new itll do the same thing...it has to be ac delco and i dont know why , any other 02 sensor will give you that problem..switch back to the delco and it will stop........wanna bet pinks??

this is from a similar post on this same page

Wel Scott, thank you and looks like you are are correct. I unplugged the O2 sensor, started the car and the idle speed was stable but here's the catch , that O2 sensor was new only 6 months ago for the emissions test. Does this mean that the O2 sensor is junk and needs to be replaced again?

I have a Bosch O2 sensor in my car..... if switching back to an AC Delco one actually works... let me know... I'm getting tired of having to treat my car like it has a carb.
