well i just bought a 98 5 speed Z24, paid 900 for it, but it rattles.... the man i bought it off of said it was upper end because it was really loud up top, i took the cams and covers off and looked, nothing out of the ordinary... i drained the oil there was alot of really small shavings on the plug which would indicate a spun rod correct? or just normal wear from not changing the oil, but one question i have is could the timing have jumped a peg and the valves kind of tapping the pistons or would i be better off pulling the oil pan and check the bearings there? i haven't done anything else to it, the cams both look great, and the what ever there called round things under the cams were all right and good looking, is there a way those could have been pushed in a little to cause some commotion on the upper end? im ranting... so i will leave it at that for a while... thanks
Lane
My guess (since my car did that too) is you spun a rod bearing. Crank Shaft Kit from Shucks is 300 bucks including core and shipping.
