I've had a high idle for 2 years, and it has been horrible. It seems everyone with 2.4ld9's and Manual Trans. ends up with this problem. I tried many times fixing it myself, and recently paid over $300 to have it fixed, twice. Both times I got it back and it was still messed up. So a couple weeks ago, I disconnect the TPS (Throttle Postion Sensor) and the battery for about an hour or 2, then hook it all back up. 2 weeks later, and its running perfect ever since! I figured it would be a temporary fix, but it has lasted much longer than I thought. I haven't touched my A/C and Heat since or my Cruise Control which I also think it could have been related to. So what do you think, did I fix it?
My high idle comes and goes, after driving for a while and its up to temp I can stop at a light and it will idle at 1500-2000, then I will take off and stop at another light 10-15min later and it will idle at 800-900. Used to idle at 1500 all the time, but I cleaned everything real good and now most of the time its right at 850.
Anyway I hope yours stays right, i know how frustrating it is!
yeah mine did the same. you can run the air if you wont it will be fine. i thought the same if i did because when i turned my air on it jumped to 1500 rpm. but after 5 seconds it will kick back down. i pulled my tps out as well and disconnected my battery for 15 min. And it has ran great ever since. and the throttle response is better. so good luck with yours man. i know how you feel.

Try hooking a datalogger/scanner up to the car, and see what your TPS is reading at idle. If it reads anything but 0, the car won't settle into idle. That's what my problem was, I grinded the nubs/elongated the holes on the TPS so I could clock it to 0%, then tighten it down and make sure it reads 100% at full throttle.
All you guys having these problems, are you using stock TB's?

Out of all the 2.4's I have owned only one had this problem. It was the TB plate sticking. A little sanding and it was fixed.

Its not the throttle plate because it closes all the way and is in good shape. Also, when I had it at the shop, they were getting a 5 percent reading, and it would only go down to zero when they unplugged the TPS. So they elongated the TPS, and it still wasn't fixed. So, over a month ago I unplug the TPS and Battery, plug back in 1 hour later, and it was fine for a month..........now its back....not sure what I can do.

Sounds like the same problem I had, you can either try another TPS, or try the fix like I described in my previous post.

Mine idles at 1100rpm or soo all the time... I'de like it to idle lower, but I'ts not really high enough to do anything about it. Maybee I should check this out... it's been bothering me a little.
Wait until your car warms up and idles at a nice 800-900 rpm, then yank your IAC motor connector. That idle will never change again.

... just a bump, but i have posted the permanent solution already.. and quite in-depth.
remember people, there is a search function for this forum, but here is the direct link

i had this problem, after doing what i said in the forum, 12,000 miles later, a/c or no a/c, 850rpms all the time(except when im going above 10 mph, which the computer automatically raises the idle to ~1,100 when in neutral<or clutch engaged> )
email me if anyone needs anymore explanation or help
