Probably the motor, isn't the scissor gear steel?

^^ yes most likely... when the window gets to that point, press the window up button and pull up GENTLY! on the window and see what it does... GENTLY

Both the motor and regulator gears are made of strong steel. I think it's highly unlikely that the gears are stripped because I don't think that the motor has enough torque to break the gear-teeth. I'm guessing you need to replace the motor, though it's not the same failure symptoms of my motors. I wrote a how to on this recently and posted it in the maintenance forum.
