Yesterday me & a friend (a true friend - he didn't beat my a$$ for talking him into it!) changed out my water pump on my 97 Z24 ...
All is not well though - got a rattling/grinding noise going on down near the water pump at idle. Goes away if you give it a few revs. Other than that the car runs (& cools) fine. Any ideas on what to look out for before we tear it back apart?
Thanks.
I dont think there is much you can look for wihtout taking it apart. now youll find out if he's your friend
did you replace the timing chain guides/tensioner while you were in there???
Did you remove the pump without first removing the camshaft chain cover and loosening the chain?
Removed the pump AFTER loosening the chain... did not replace the tensioner though.
From what I've read in the last couple of days, those tensioners are real crap.
Yeah, sounds like the tensioner to me. I've got some history with those little bastards.
