Bad Fuel Sending Unit?
Sunday, August 19, 2007 9:52 AM
Just thought i'd throw a quick first post, I just bought a 96 sunfire and the day I purchased it I put fuel in up to a little more than half full. After driving 55 miles i'm at a little more than 1/8 of a tank, however when I turn the key off and remove it from the ignition, the fuel gauge goes back up to about 3/8. I can't imagine that I used more than 1/4 tank of fuel to go 55 miles in this thing, and I don't remember if the fuel gauge changed before when I removed the key (wasn't paying attention.) Does this sound like a bad sending unit, or something else? Do the fuel gauges usually move that much when these cars are shut off?

Thanks for any help!
