2000 2.4L sunfire won't start

Hey all,

My 2000 2.4L manual sunfire won't start. Looking for ideas on what could be causing the problems. 150k kilomters, fully stock except the deck & speakers

When I try to start the car its as if the clutch is up and the safety is engaged, turning the key to the start position will not engage the starter. If I rolling start it (aka kick start) the car works fine, engine clutch trany all working.

Replaced starter, not the problem.. checked under hood and dash fuse box, none appear blown. checked clutch sensor assembly under the dash it all appears okay. checked all connections under the hood.

Right now I'm starting hte car one of 2 ways, rolling start or shorting the starter with the key in the on position with a screwdriver.

again nothing appears mechanically wrong with the car.. its treated fairly well and the clutch is still the original and in good condition. One thing happened the day it started:
-I had a windshield washer explosion under the hood (someone filled it for me but didn't put the cap back on properly, fluid backfired up and drenched the battery/fusebox area).. could the bcm or pcm be fried?

Sounds like your ignition switch is shot.

After testing with a multimeter today I have found the hood fuse is receiving current whereas the dash ignition fuse is not. So it appears something is happening between the two, I don't have the schematics so I have no idea what wires go where and what to check inside there. For now I have jury rigged a solution as I can't pay a mechanic to diagnos and repair the issue.

If it has this recall complied with there will be an added relay, in the Starter solenoid circuit, which is known to fail sometimes!!
