Hey everyone. First bout of trouble with the Cav, nothing serious, but it bothers me all the same. I turned on the car today, and the odometer and trip reading was going crazy! All kinds of jibberish coming up and trip coming on by itself, also jibberish. The first 2 or 3 numbers of the odometer come up, but after that they flash and show thing like backwards 9's, and other things. I'd take a picture, but the camera is broke. Any idea what it could be? My gas gauge also went back to empty two or three times, and the "Check Guages" light came on, but it used to go back to normal after 30 or 40 seconds. This is kind of making me think I may have a problem with the whole cluster. Any ideas to what it could be?

does the car start ok ? it could be a low or bad battery
or the cluster going bad
Nope, car starts perfect, so it's not the battery. But, it didn't happen since today, went for a spin then and it was perfect. I'll keep it updated. In the meantime, anyone else have a guess?
mine was doing that exact same thing with the odometer. im pretty shure it is a loose harnes in the back but if you (this may sound bad but works) hit the dash right above it it will usualy work better. i also have a bad gas gauge but its a little dif because it just doesnt goe below 1/8th of a tank. so if i drive it empty it wont show but eventualy the check gauge light comes on and then the needle jumps around. i have just learnd to deal with this because i dont realy know whats up but my bust guess would be the actual sensor or whatever it is in the tank. hope that helps a bit, it seams we have simmaler problems. what year is youres? i have a 99 2.4l
Yup, mines a 99 "Z22" 2200 SFI, Practically base haha. I'm guessing thats yours in your sig, very nice. Yeah, the sensor sounds right for the gas gauge, that or a bad ground I've been told, and hitting the dash does make sense
I had the same problem. Check the ground on the battery box.....the one that is connected to the ground cable. Sometimes rust gets in there and your engine will get ground but the body doesn't.
I had this happen, but my car would sputter and die as well. It was a bad ground.
