2000 Sunfire headlight bulb replacement
Sunday, August 12, 2007 8:39 AM
My girlfriend has a 2000 Sunfire and I'm wanting to install brighter bulbs in the headlights but can't figure out how to remove the bulbs. I pryed the plastic cover off that goes between the two, looked behind the headlight but can't find an access hole.

Can someone help me. Thanks.

The whole headlight assembly should come off, at which point you want to remove the headlight connector, and then twist the bulb at the back of the assembly, and pull it out.

OK next question. How do you pull the headlight assembly off the car? Where are the bolts? Do you have to remove anything to get to the bolts. Surely not the whole front clip...

There are two bolts on top that need to be removed. The fender side is easily visible, the other is under the plastic cover you pryed up. If you are not careful prying the cover you could break the pins. Not to worry Advanced Auto has them

Those pins can be easily remove. Gently pry up the center part with a flat screwdriver, then once thats up the whole pin comes out.

Its pretty simple just requires the right socket fitting. So pry off the plastic cover held on by black pins. Then just take off the bolts to the assembly and the whole like should come right out. Then look on the back of the unit and twist the bulb backing and pull out then disconnect the bulb

Maybe this isn't something you should be attempting yourself... Just my $.02, since the Sunfire is the easiest car I've ever taken a headlight out of.

UH, I think I can change a lighbulb. I've built two turbo systems for my cars.

GM just doesn't make it obvious on how to get to bulbs.

I don't have much experience with GM cars. Installed Silverstars in my 2003 Subaru Baja and figured it out on my own with no problems. Just unscrew this cover marked "turn left to remove", unplug the harness and swap out bulbs.

This Sunfire is my girlfriend's car.

Well congrats on the work you do... Here's what I do: RD Fabs Stainless Specialists

All I was getting at is that no matter what the car--foreign or domestic--a person should be able to follow the "trail of pieces" to figure out how something comes off or goes on. Especially someone who's already somewhat savvy with working on cars. Best of luck on the J
