Well, it started a few days ago (Friday) when the Check engine light came on in my '99 Sunfire. I was going to get it checked out on Tuesday (since it's a long weekend here in Canada ... or Ontario, at least).
Yesterday (Saturday), the battery light turned on.
Today (Sunday), the ABS light turned on, and the radio started flickering off & on.
I'm not a mechanic, but could this be a sign that old glory here is about to meet its maker? or is it possibly just the alternator? if it is, usually how much does it cost for the part & possibly to get it replaced by a technician?
sounds like your alternator is going....get it checked out...if you need a boost and the car dies when you take the cables off you know its the alternator.
sounds like a bad alternator,
I remember when my alternator went bad, it did not charge after 20 minutes of running, then it would start charging on and off
until one night the car died but the next day the car started again.
the ABS light came on, and the battery light came on too, and the wiper blades had very low power.
after replacing the alternator, the problem was fixed.
call your local auto part store for a price.
battery light, ABS, slow wipers ... that's exactly what mine was doing ... and then every single dummy light came on & all the needles (RPM, Speed, Gas) all dropped to zero, but the car still worked fine.
i think i'll just go with a rebuilt part. for a '99 that i'm getting rid of at the end of this year, it's not worth a new part.
Hope that rebuilt works longer than 6 months...

well, i'm getting a new car in 4 months anyways ... it just has to last until then
