96 twin cam issues...

A friend of mine just bought a 96 Grand Am (I know, not a Cav, they're the same powertrain, right?) Twin Cam. He thought it was a good deal as the previous owner had installed a 4-1 header, performance clutch, oversize TB, underdrive crank (only), and a custom fully welded 2.5" exhaust. The car ran beautifully, only needed brakes when he bought it. A couple weeks later, his problems start.

Originally the car had a pair of 10" subs and two amps with a Lightning cap. He noticed that if he had the stereo cranked, the car would run rougher, sputtering occasionally on acceleration. Then someone stole the subs, amps, and cap. Now he noticed that if he turned just the CD player up, the car would run rough more often (could be a coincidence). A cold spell hit us and he tunred the blower motor on and the symptoms got even worse, to the point of the idle dropping really low or dying, or at the very least it would sit there and bounce between 4-550 rpms. If the car ran long enough, it would eventually go away.

I'm running out of places to seek help, and have posted this on other forums, but no bites. If you can, please help

Probably to much juice, probably have to go with a alternator that can handle that much juice.

that much juice? he has a cd deck, even 2 10's is not alot of juice..

id do some routine maintenance as i would with any car ive bought used, plugs, air/fuel filter. clean the throttle body, sea foam if it doesnt clear up start lookin for in depth..

also check the map sensor on the throttle body for cracks or holes in the line it kinda sounds like that
