Radio might be on its last legs. The factory radios control the door chimes. Not sure whats causing the ABS light to illuminate though. They should not be related. Its a long shot, but have your charging system tested at a parts store.

I have a 95 cavalier and an upgraded headunit... does it still control the door chime? Also... the ABS light is on constently now... SUCKS... any help or suggestions would be greatful there.... can they test the ABS at a parts store??

Nope, thats in 2000+ cars that the factory radio controls the chimes. I don't believe parts stores can test the ABS system. Just a longshot, but since that and the radio and doorchimes were acting up, it sounds like there MAY be something lose/rubbing in the wiring in the dash.

Did you wire the head unit yourself? Your 12V power may be touching something it shouldent?

I didn't do the headunit.. it was done by BESTBUY... but... whenever I take off + and - terminals on the battery for a second and reattach them it all works again! So I don't think it's a wire rubbing... because it take "exactly" 3 days before it happens again... wonder if it could be a relay.

Can you fit an in-car voltmeter to come on with the ignition, it may give everyone more clues if you can monitor the voltage on the charging system!

i would get a GOOD wiring diagram for the car...not the Haynes crap, that will show you all the splices in the cars system. I know GM like to put wierd things together at these splices, especially the grounds under the dash. Perhaps all of these are in one splice...

Did you pull the deck? when i installed my new deck 01 cav, i had to install a special unit between the deck and the stock harness.. it controlled the chime and other bs.. last week i heard something rattling around in my dash.. lol.. i pulled the deck cuz i spliced off the acc power to light up my led lighting.. and woah.. my chime was falling apart! it vibrated into 3 pieces /w the plug loose! .. so idk.. look for that thing..? i used a 1/2 roll of elec. tape to keep that dinger back together.. and screwed it up in there.. haha gl.

by upgraded do you mean "Upgraded GM Radio, or Aftermarket radio"... If you have a 2000 + GM RDS (Z24/ LS Sport) radio (which is an upgrade from a 95 radio) in the place of your stock one, it may be trying to control things but i doubt that situation is occuring (Useless infomation: GM List on a 2000 Z24 Stock radio is about $750... with a wholesale account you can get one for $215 from the dealer)

this might be a long shot but do you have any corosion on your battery terminals...

if not... unless you have a 2000 + radio ... the radio, the cd player, and the ABS are not connected... (and even if you do, the ABS is still not connected)

My question to you is... is it just the CD player aspect of your radio that isnt working or the Whole radio in entirety???

if its the whole radio, you may wanna look in to your ECU. The computer does handle the ABS and the Door Chime, it also handles the Ignition (red wire) to your radio as well as the dimmer lights (orange wire) to your radio

I went from the stock 95 radio to a pioneer radio... after market, nothing in between. Everything has worked fine up until now. The ABS is on constantly so I'm going to check the relay this weekend since the fuses are all fine. I'm thinking it's just a problem with the relay. The radio thing I haven't figured out just yet, I'm going to clean my battery terminals on Sunday also to see if that works so I'll keep everyone updated... but any suggestions coming from you guys should help in the mean time... or while troubleshooting this weekend.

Also check the connector at the ECM (electronic control module) or redneck "COMPUTER", acording to Mitchell's, your ABS and Acc. wires are side by side. If the connector is melted there is your problem. If not check all the connectors under the vehicle. They are bad about rubbing and also catching debris will driving. Front: to rear side of control arm, right below the hub assembly. Rear: If present should be going into a connector into your dust shield. Also check and trace all wires going along your under carriage. Let me know what you find.

UPDATE:: I replaced the ground on the battery with a new one... so far so good... but it usually takes 3 days for the radio to go out, so I'll keep everyone posted on if it's fixed or not. The ABS light is still on, haven't figured that one out YET! Keep this updates as time passes...

check brake fluid level for abs light.. if its not that u have a bad wheel sensor.. check the wiring on all 4 wheels at the abs sensor.. ive broke a couple

Definitely sounds like a bad ground to me. There's one for sure to check... on the side of the frame rail, under the battery tray. The Delco batteries like to leak acid on that and rot it out....

Well it wasn't a bad ground... maybe the radio is just on it's last leg.. but why would it be fine once the battery is reset?? Also why would it effect the door chime... does the radio control the door chime even in a 95 cav?? I've narrowed the ABS problem down to the speed sensors... just have to figure out if its one or both... and if it's one... WHICH!? Other than that... everything is hunky dory...

The radio has nothing to do with the chimes on the 95-99 cars. The chimes are produced by the "Convenience Center" which is behind the dash on the passenger side, kinda up behind the glove box. Bunch of wires going to it... It controls lots of things in the 95-99 cars, which are all controlled by the Body Control Module in the 00-05 cars. (The BCM does more as well, but that's another topic entirely...)

There's four ABS sensors, one at each wheel. The only way to know for sure, is to plug a scan tool into your service port while driving and monitor each of them. GM's Tech 2 diangostic tool would work... but that's a visit to the dealer and $$$... or a Snap-On tool... if you have a friend at a shop somewhere....

....or a thick wallet that can afford the Snap-On version.

since its a 95-99 model. Plug up a scan tool to your OBD plug underneath your dash on the drivers side adn see what it says. The next thing you could do is check the battery voltage. It should be between 12v or 13-14v with the engine on. if its any lower than 12v then it could be a faulty battery. That happens to my car bcuz my battery is a little weak and my lights and chimes go haywired and then soon my engine wont start. The Body Control Module underneath the dash on the passenger side as referred by john lenko does contain a few relays of its own. Might want to check onto that also. Good luck. Keep us updated.

Those cheap scan tools only read powertrain codes. No dice on ABS codes.

Not sure what the ABS problem was... but I washed the engine bay the other day... and for some reason the light went off... weird! Anyways... i'm still having a problem with my radio/battery/interior light/door chime situation...
Every three days the radio, door chime, and interior light goes off... not the cluster or anything else... just the dome light and radio. The only way to get them to come back on is to take the + and - off the battery wait a sec or two and put the + and - back on! Any ideas what it could POSSIBLY be... I checked all the relays and fuses... everything's good! Still no ideas...

I have had a lot of these interior light/door chime problems and the trouble was the door switches are dirty or sticking. This is a common problem with these cars.

Why would that make the door chime, interior light, and radio shut off till the battery is re-upped.
