I have a 97 sunfire gt 5-speed, while turning left onto a side road the tires began spinning in first as i straightened out it started what sounded like wheel hop noises. Shifted into second, and when i began getting on it again the popping became louder, and the engine just rev'd. Sounds like loose metal rollin around and a small grinding noise. Once stopped, placed back in first gear...while letting out slowly on the clutch entirely, it would idle forward, soon as gas was applied it made the same popping and slipping and wouldn't move. Buddy and i think it sounds like the axle is loose or maybe stripped?
HELP ME!!
You probably took out the spyder gears in the differential. I have seen it before.
I was told by others that I took out the spline shaft or something and that my trannys shot
Depends if the axles are moving or not.... Put it on jackstands and try it. If one side axle turns, but the wheel doesn't move.. then the axle is shot. Outer CV most likely...
If nothing moves... then you're looking at a new transmission
