Ok guys, tank has been leaking for the passed 5-6 months over 5/8 of a tank, annoying as all can be to only be puttin $20 bucks in at a time to keep it around half tank...decided to get down there and install a new one...I tried to do my homework, and most of what I've read lead me to believe it was a very simply/easy process.
Well, my luck is just the opposite.
I couldn't get the old straps off, i guess the clip that the bolt threads up into broke, on both sides

, so the bolt spins freely when turned. We ended up cutting the old straps off to get the tank down.
Now, we removed all of the electrical quick-connectors, the filler neck, it was the fuel lines we had trouble removing.
We ended up getting the tank in a position to pull the fuel pump and the other thing (no idea what it is called) that sticks down into the tank through the two holes on the top.
Ok, so we have the old tank out of the car. There are two things I need to know/figure out.
On the inside of the old gas tank, there is this spring loaded mechanism, that we can't seem to figure out how to get it out.
Here is a Picture of my new tank on the inside,
Now, the new tank also has a flap on the inside of the fitting where the Filler Hose connects:

the old tank;
So my assumption is that the new tank, is a cheap design and has a spring loaded flap right at the filler neck fitting, the old tank has a spring loaded mechanism further back, into the tank???
I am assuming I do not need to take the peice below out of the old tank and put in new tank right?
Alright, onto the next thing. In the picture below, i highlighted the hose i am talking about in green..

That hose did not connect to anything??? Is it a venting hose? I was stumped when i saw it, by the way i was not throwing any Check Engine Light codes...
I also for some reason thought that there were two hoses/lines comming from the filler spout?
It is just one....
Now lastly, the Fuel Line fittings....I have no idea how to disconnect the lines? Especially from the Fuel Filter...which i bought a new one for, and there was a nylon weird thing included..

The two fittings in the Picture above, how do you remove them? if they can be removed, especially the one on that side of the fuel filter? the other side is a nut, which i also can't get loosened, see pics below..

Can any of these lines be removed from the pump??It would make installing the new tank a hell of a lot easier..

This pic you can see the left side of filter has two hex nut/bolt...with a 16mm box wrench on the small and a 20mm box wrench on the big, could not get them loosened, wd40 didnt help, even after 40 minutes...spraying every 5-10....how on earth do you get the other side out??I am assuming it has something to do with the nylon fitting shown in the picture below??
Does anybody see anything wrong with what I've posted, I spent probably 6 hours doing this today..and I don't think it is a 6 hour job.....
I will take a guess and say that it is either an anti-siphon device or a device that prevents fuel from coming out of the tank if rolled over. probably the latter if not both.
I was thinking along those lines....the new tank has a spring loaded flap thing...that i guess only opens when the gravitational pressure from fuel being put into filler neck forces it to toward inwards.....i would assume it would remain closed in the event of a flipover...however i can't see the new one being anti-syphon
its called a fuel cap with a key lock on it not to expensive at parts store i could syphon ur tank clean in 5 min anyways with a handpump and 2 hoses all it would take is going under the car with a knife cutting the fuel lines and syphoning did this to my 95 montcarlo when i couldnt syphon through the filler line
You need a special tool to disconnect those fuel lines. If your not sure just ask at the auto parts store they will find them for you. They are just plastic pieces that slide over the line and press in those plastic tabs to release the line. Once you get the tool you will understand how it works.

How about the Filter removal?? on one side the fitting looks perfectly round, the other is a 16mm, and a 20mm...but they are as tight as a virgin on her wedding day, and gotten get it loosened at all...
