Where do you get your 2nd transmissions?
Saturday, April 21, 2007 11:12 AM
I drive 440 miles, round-trip, every weekend for work in my 03 Sunfire, and I think my tranny is starting to show its age... I'm thinking about getting another tranny and keeping it around as a spare for when the day comes that my tranny finally quits on me. I'm not one for rebuilding. I'd rather just buy a new one. Where is a good place to get a new tranny. Is it possible to get a new one or are remanufatured ones the only option? I know Advanced Auto sells remanufatured ones and so does NAPA. I'm a fan of NAPA but I'm just a little skeptical when it comes to getting another tranny. I just want to make sure that when I replace it I'm getting the best I can get and not have to worry about having problems with it every 3 months. Used is another option but just the same, you don't know how the previous owner treated their car. I depend on this car to get be to work on those long drives and don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere like when my fuel pump crapped out on me at 1AM one night driving home from work. Where do you guys go when you need another tranny?

Try flushing the tranny first. There are probably much cheaper and easier things to do to make the tranny work like it used to aside from swapping in a new one. As far as I know, these transmissions hold up pretty well to day to day driving.

a wrecking yard is the best place for a tranny. for a few hundred bucks you can get a low mileage used one. hell when i worked at standard i did an 05 sunfire with 75KMS on it. a brand new car. the tranny was priced at $350. a steal if you ask me.

I have heard Jasper sells them. I don't know about the price, but have heard the quality is good.

If it was me, I'd go with Superfastz and find a low mileage unit in the JY. If you just have the fluid/filter changed regularly, you'd be surprised how long those trannys will last. I don't recommend flushing though - too many horror stories.
