Driving to work today and looked down and seen the Check Engine light was on. WTF! Car was running fine. Popped the hood when I got to work and didn't smell anything. The airbag light was on also. This has been happening since I got the car with the airbag light. It comes and goes. The car is a R-Title. The Check engine light on is concerning to me tho...I think i'm going to check the fluids, disconnect the battery then see if it resets the computer.
Any other ideas after that?
Car is a 04 LS Auto, 17,000miles

Im not sure if R-Title is the same as a salvage tile. Was it in an accident? If it was, there is probably crash data still stored on your airbag control module. If it was never changed that light will stay on or keep coming on. Thats where I would start. That light could also be making the engine light come on.
Were the airbags replaced?
Did the airbag light stay on ever since you got the car?
Airbag light has nothing to do with the check engine light.
Go to your local automotive store and rent a code reader and check the engine light and report back to us with the code.
I disconnected the battery then reconnected it and the light(s) went off. The airbag light has been off/on since I got the car last July. I don't know if the bags deployed when it was wrecked. I bought it off a kid who got if from the chevy dealer. If the check engine comes on again I'm going to rent the code reader thingy.
thanks guys.

R-title is short for rebuilt. a rebuilt title is issued after a salvage car has been repaired and has passed safety and emissions.
if the air bag light comes and goes its probably a loose connection. id check the passenger bag connector first. if the bags where deployed then replaced but the module was not the light would be on all the time.

The code readers at the parts stores usually don't pull SRS codes, just the OBD2 emission system codes. Will likely need to go to the dealer or Pep-boys or something similar to find out the SRS light code.
