i have a 2000 2.4l 5spd sunfire that needs a new engine the main bearings and rod bearings in mine are @!#$ and iwas wondering if i have to replace it with one made in 2000 or could i use an engine a couple years newer . if so would it require a new ECM and wiring harness or can i just drop one in with little hassle other than install. i know that the engines previous to 2000 probably wont work well because so many things were changed between 1999-2000 i did try to search this but didnt find anything
as long as its a 2000-4 LD( then you should be cool
so any 2000 and up will work ?no wiring harnesses or ecm to play with ?
Nope. For the vast majority of items, the 2.4L LD9 remained the same from 2000 until it's demise.

thanks that made things a little easier for me had a hard time tryin to find a 2000 only at the wreckers but this should open a few more doors i wanted to get the s/c 2.4 from the dealership but they said its not possible anymore somehow i dont believe that
A supercharged 2.4L crate assembly was never available, to my knowledge. You would have to buy the 2.4L supercharger kit (if it's still available) and a separate 2.4L crate engine (still available).

huh i thought there was cause the shop guy said they made a beefier engine to handle the s/c and that i could buy the kit which is still available but i would have to upgrade the internals on the stock LD9 to cope with the charger but my understanding is the s/c kit was a safe bolt on ? now im kinda confused
