I installed a WAI on my cavalier and like the small performance boost I got. Its small but noticeable.
I was wondering why do stock cars come with an air box anyways? it seems like a WAI/filter combo would be better and more simple to design than the plastic molded box with very odd shapes. After all the WAI is just a bent pipe.
Also why are stock air boxes so large? Does its volume somehow calculate into engine operation? The stock cavi air box is much larger than it needs to if were just a filter housing, so I assume it has some functionality caused by its air capacity. It certainly has changed the tone of my engine having just the WAI. It must be more than just getting the right tone....but then who knows.
Thanks for any feedback you can offer
It has more to do with quieting the intake resonance than anthing else.
Ahh so my "tone" guess was not far off. I like the sound better with the WAI. The engine actually sounds like its trying harder than it did before. Its just a little 2200 but it wants to be a 2.4l now!!
