Ok so me and my buddies are in the process of pulling out the motor on my 02 cavalier 2.2l ohv manual transmission. and we have the engine ready to pull out but when we pull it out the shaft from the transmission gets stuck on the clutch. we want to pull it out without the transmission and without taking off the axles. ive heard its been done before but i want some opinions on the easiest way to do it from this point and the easiest way to put it back in. Thanks for the help.
sorry guys wrong forum thought i was in maintenance forum sorry.
angle angle angle... try lifting the tranny up too (ofcourse, undo tranny mount)
I have removed my trans from my 2200 4 times now. You will have to pull the trans because the input shaft from the trans goes through the clutch, and you can't "angle" it without taking the trans off the mounts. As for making it easier in the future check out The flyin skwirl subframe mod in the trans fourm as it makes life 10x easier in the future.. If your car were an auto you could leave it in and pull the motor. because you just have to take the converter bolts out from the flexplate, then with a litttle care you can get it out with the trans and axles still in.
JUCNBST- He isn't removing the transmission, he is removing the engine and leaving the transmission attached to the car.
Are you telling him he cannot remove the engine while leaving the tranny in there? Because you can and I know I am not the only one who has done so.
On my 2.4L, all I had to do was remove the front tranny mount, put a jack underneath of it, jack engine up while engine comes out, you tilt the tranny with it, it slides off and it goes on/in the exact same way.
hey guys yeah i ended up figuring it out the other day. we missed one of the tranny mounts so it wasnt lifting all the way up. but it got out and now its back in so 1 more day till it starts up again.
