Ok, you dont gain huge numbers or weight savings. Though you do gain Approx. 5hp and save about 30lbs in weight. by removing your A/C system. That being said i do have some questions. Main reason i want to remove A/C is to make more room for Charge and Down Pipes for my Turbo Install.
Some people say get the A/C bypass pulley from GM and do it that way, but that still seems pointless because you could just leave the A/C compressor in and it would serve the same purpose as long as the Compressor is not engadged. Therefore you arent gaining or loosing any HP. Which would be cheaper and only weigh a few pounds more than the bypass pulley.
Some people say just remove A/C compressor and run a shorter belt, thus putting the belt on the opposite side of the tensioner.
How exactly would that work? Being that the tensioner only creates force/pressure in one direction. I dont see how that would keep tension on the belt.
Maybe im just over thinking this, but if that were to work. Wouldnt the two belts come really close together, possibly even touching?
Even if the belt didnt touch itself being routed that way, i plan on using an underdrive(smaller) crank pulley which would make that clearance between the belt even less.
So that leaves me with another question. Could i just remove the A/C compressor AND the tensioner and just use a realy short belt connecting the Crank pulley the the alternater?
If im missing something or theres a better way to do this, please let me know. Im open for suggestions
answer to the last question is yes but have fun getting it on,read my posts and threads and you'll understand what I am goin thru

How much of a PITA is it to run the belt from the Crank to the Alternator with NO tensioner or A/C compressor?
Probably harder by yourself but the way I ran mine,I think is wrong,I am using the tensioner and the 350k5 belt is way to tight and squealing from time to time.I think you need to have the tensioner pulley,if using it,on the flat side of the belt and I think mine is on the rib side,I'm not sure.

I think I figured it out,if you take off the tensioner&compressor and just run a short belt from crank to alt. you'll have to run shorter than a 350k5 so start off trying a 345k5
