Hello guys,
Currently, I'm having this problem with my 96 cavalier. The problem is, whenever i'm driving i have this hesitation problem. like sputtering and spitting. I have to smash on the gas pedal just to make the car go faster. Currently, I have replaced my front and rear o2's, I.A.C. valve, TPS, I.A.T. sensor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and coil pack. I'm clueless now.
please help. any help would be nice.
Thanks
Do you have Z24 or 2.2 2200 motor?. Have you changes the fuel filter or done a fuel pressure test?
I have a 2.2. And yes, I have changed the fuel filter. I haven't done a fuel pressure test. how do you do that?
Buy a fuel pressure tester ($20 to $60at most)
1) Relieve the fuel pressure
easiest way- remove gas cap, pull the fuel pump fuse, hope in the car and crank it and let it stall (might not crank at all)
2) take the line off after the fuel filter and tee it off to the pressure tester and the exsisting line
3) put cap back on, reuse pump fuse, hope in the car and put it in the ON position (not turn it on, at least not yet)
4) let the fuel pump rebuild pressure and read guage *two test*
2200- with fuel pump primed (no humming) 36-42 psi, engine on and at idle 31-44psi
2.3/ 2.4- with fuel pump primed 36- 42psi, running idle 31- 44psi
2.2 ecos- with pump primed 50- 60psi, running idle 40- 57psi
(stock pump psi reads)
5) relieve pressure again to dissconnect the pressure tester
6) reverse process
*Str8 outta the Haynes Manual
(correct me if I missed anything
Hope it hleps
now DIE!
oh also... it could be the fuel pressure regualtor. Try that first.
now DIE!
I would say fuel pump is bad, I see is quite a bit. As said above do a pressure test to see what the result is.
