Hi guys, ive noticed starting today that when my 2000 z24 auto is idling theres a somewhat loud grinding/gurgling noise coming from the passengers side rear of the engine, it seems to get quieter when you rev it and i cant hear it when im driving, only when its idling in park.
My mechanic said it could be the water pump.. does this sound like it could be it? he quoted me 7H for the pump replacement.
If it is the water pump, should i do any other work while im at it? i heard the timing chain was a good thing to change while changing the water pump.. anything else?
Can i keep driving the car for a few days? or should i park it?
any help would be appriciated.
before you start it again check the timing chain cover for dents from the inside out. I am thinking it is possible that a cam gear is coming loose... if that happens you will bend valves. So just check right at the top of the cover for any outward circle marks.
next thing is water pump or timing chain tensioner. I bet if you find someone with experience on the ORG they would help you out for about 150 bucks plus maybe 50-60 for the pump, then you can make sure all the bolts are tight too.
