just bought a 2000 cavy z24. and the car lot run a tester on my car and got the check engine light to go away. but trac stayed on? bought it today 2000 model with 70,000. carfax listed small right front damage around 4 years ago. im the 3rd owner(counting the carlot) and i wandering what would make the trac light stay on. manual said maybe the p-brake? but it aint. the shop ran a tester on it and it came back with nothing but the light went away for a couple of hours.
any help?
Trac off/BS come on together, since they use the same sensors.
If just your Trac off is just on, maybe you should see if you or someone pressed the button to shut the traction off.

just got the car today, and its been on since i first set in it so i didnt push it.
They put them in different places on all cars. Sometimes on the shift knob or close to it. Sometimes on the right side of the sterring wheel below the instrument cluster. I see them all over though.

I just checked the owner's manual for the 2000 cavy, and there doesn't appear to be a manual "switch" to disable the traction control on that year. They mention only that it may be disabled (and the light remains lit) if the shift lever is in 1st or 2nd, or if the hand brake isn't fully disengaged. Since you seem to have ruled those out, I'm at a loss.

Cavaliers do not have traction control switches, sunfires do however.
