1996 Sunfire water pump issue

Hi,

I've change the water pump on my sister sunfire.

Since I've change it, when running the car the temperature of the coolant raise up to the maximum.

Any idea why?

The pump was leaking. So I replace it with a rebuilded pump. Everything was going fine before I start the engine. Once I start it, I didn't saw any leak.
The car was running fine and all. When I took it for a spine the temp gauge goes to the max in less than 2 minutes and its -20°C outside here....

Damn I hate that car!

Thank you

Did ya burp it? Small bleed valve on the coolant pipe across the plug side of the engine, near the exhaust manifold -- also one at 'old' thermostat position, back of #4 piston, coolant outlet fitting. Use the one out front. Run engine few minutes, lightly rev, let settle, slowly open valve to bleed off air, repeat 'till no air comes out. Recheck a week later to confirm air is out.

What did Dart Baron mean by "old" thermostat position. Did GM put the 2.2 thermostat somewhere else?

The 'stat is now by the water pump in it's own housing, easy to get to in the open. Used to be top of engine just rear of #4. That place has words moulded into the metal elbow, somthing about the new location. I'm guessing it was there in the '95 2.2s
