Well my fiances 97 cavs brakes are crunching pretty bad... So im guessing its just brake pads and pretty sure shes going to need rotors aswell..
Also they crunch even when shes not braking some times..
any thoughts?
Why dont you take a wheel off and inspect it? No one here can magically see what the rotors/pads look like.

its about -3 here and has been for some time.. and I really dont feel like freezing my ass off
My '97 Cav's brakes are shot, and all I get is rumble and vibration. Worn pads often cause more of a squeal. The only "crunching" I get is when there is from snow build-up in the wheel, which is a possibility if it's as cold as you say. I guess we won't find out until spring, or until you find a heated garage.
