Hi everyone, My friend and I replaced the trans in his 96 cavalier 2.2, 3-speed. Everything went fine up until the time we drove the car out of the garage. The car does not want to upshift. It is stuck in first gear. We accidentally broke the shift cable. So, now the car would not stay PARK the lever says it is on park but it is actually in reverse! We tried to drive it by manually upshifting it but nothing. Do you think that the trans shift cable is the problem? if not, any suggestions? the trans is used from a 96 cavy. we don't know how many miles but we replaced the filter and we added new fluid as well. sorry if this is in the wrong forum. It probably should have gone in the transmision section! Oh well!!!

Well, sounds like you have some issues. The shift cable is a problem and an accurate diagnosis can not be done without that first being fixed. Replace the cable then redrive the car. post back and tell me what happened.
