2002 Kia Rio 79057 miles

I was driving down I-17 & coasting (in gear) due to slow traffic. When i hit the gas I got a grinding noise. a "grind it if you can't find it" noise if you will.

Well, the car shuts itself off and I end up costing accross 3 lanes of traffic and down shifting to stop.

Now the car will not turn over. You turn the key to run, you hear a " hum from the back... basically the fuel pump turning on. when you try ti turn the car over, you get one "CHUG", the cluster lights dim, and you still hear the hum. it's like if you were trying to start a 5-speed without the clutch pressed in.

I did not hear any noises or feel a jerk or anything when the car acted up. I know I'm getting close to pushing it on the timing belt, so that could be it... but I also had what was best described as a "squeeky" clutch pedle... it's not nearly as squeeky now... I dunno if that's just because the car is sitting or if it's because something broke in the tranny.... but when I push the cluch, you can still hear things move in the tranny & it goes through the gears just fine. The battery is about a week old.

Anyone got any ideas
