I drive a 2000 pontiac sunfire, it was throwing up check engine code P0442 (EVAP LEAK SMALL).
I didn't have a smoke machine, so I took it to Village Automotive to have a smoke test performed.
They told me the EVAP VENT SOLENOID was leaking. I said okay, thanks, declined them replacing it for $130 dollars ($30 part) I went and got the part, replaced it correctly, and it throws up the error code still.
I plan on brining in the old solenoid to village tomorrow to ask exactly where it was leaking.
Anything else I should check?
Bringing this post back from the grave.

Where is the vent solenoid on a 96 Cavalier? Anyway to test it or just replace? Thanks.
I guess I'll answer my own question. Its on the rear of the engine under the intake manifold.
thought it was near the evap canister by the r/f wheel well/ fascia. Is what your describing the purge solenoid maybe?
Purge is under hood, vent by tank. If vent sol. Leaking, check wiring near connector. Common problem.
I think these cars night have a purge solenoid near the coils and oil filter, and a tank pressure/vent sensor at the fuel tank, and a vent solenoid by the charcoal canister in the front-right.
vent soleniod is in the rear by the tank. to the right of the charcoal canister. pressure sensor is mounted in the tank, purge is near engine.
maybe for the op 2000 but not for Jeff E's 96 cav.
Interesting. I just assumed the older ones were the same as the newer ones
