Alternator not charging battery
Sunday, November 05, 2006 7:05 AM
Over the past month I had done an engine swap on my 2001 Sunfire (2.2) everything went fine at first. But the battery light started to come on. So I charged the battery and all was well for a while. It started doing it again.

When I remove the positive battery cable while the car is running it shuts off immidiately, So on first guess I thought it was the Alternator. We purchased a new one and installed it and same thing was happening, I went to Wal-mart and bought a cheap volt-meter When the car is running I get readings from both the batt and alternator. All the wires seem to be hooked up fine. Red wire to Alternator and the piece with the harness.

I've been scrathing my head on this one for 3 weeks now. Please help!!!!

did you check every single fuse in the car? under the hood as well as in the dash.....check every fuse.

also make sure the alternator has a good ground, and that the battery has a good ground. also make sure the link between the alternator and battery is a good solid connection.

good luck

I did check all the fuses, and I think the ground may be the problem, but every where I ground it does the same thing. When I unhook the battery cable the car shuts off???? Any other suggestions?????
