Recently purchased a 95 2.2l ohv and got it on the road recently(today). While driving the engine light came on while I was driving and turns off when I turn the car on. But only turns on after about 5 mins of driving. The car isn't over-heating,i replaced the wires,plugs,o2 sensor, and map sensor. I searched and searched and search for a way to read the CE light in my car.But the search function did me no good. How do I check this so I can get rid of that dreadful light?
I was told to disconnect the battery for a minute for the computer to reset but i dont know how true that is.
go to advance/autozone/parts store of your choice and have them read the code. if you have the automatic, then you have the newer obd2 computer, which codes can only be read with a code reader/scanner, if you have the 5 speed, then you have the older obd1 computer, which codes are retrieved by jumping 2 of the terminals in the aldl connector. also, get a repair manual of your choice.

yes, disconneting the battery on an obd2 vehicle will reset the code, but what would be the point of doing that without first finding out what the problem was?

It isn't that I need to reset the code;because the CE light will most likely come back on.I need to fix the problem; but the first step to fixing the problem is to find out the code. The stickies about what the codes mean is very nice; But for us obd1 users....its another story.Cause I have absolutely no clue what pins to jump to find out the code
I have a Hanes but its at the shop and I'm runnin obd1 I just need to know what pins.
lucky for you im never more than 5 feet away from my chiltons...
there ya go, now, in the key on, engine off possition, jump terminal B (diagnostic terminal) with terminal A (ground) read the flahes, and you'll have your code
